“We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other
languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their
pockets for new vocabulary.” ~James Davis Nicoll
I ran across the quote today and thought it both funny and appropriate. What’s your favorite writing/grammar/language quote?~k
For many years now I have liked the (pseudo)sentence “Curious green ideas sleep furiously.”
Ha! This was precious. Thanks!
Dorothy Parker (apologies if any of this is inexact): “A book such as this is not to be taken lightly. It should be thrown with great force.”
I’ve got a much better one, from my beloved Anne Lamott book, Bird by Bird: “Any plot you impose on your characters will be onomatopoeic: PLOT.”
I have that book too! It’s great! ~k
I apologize for being so far behind, but my legs are short.
My favorite is a concept, from Stephen King–that writing is telepathy.
I shall have to think on that… but in the meantime, thought I’d let you know I was here.
